French President Macron Speaks in New Orleans On Climate Change Today, But He Should Not Forget the Enslaved Frenchwomen Who Built His Country’s New France — Louisiana

French President Emmanuel Macron is making his way to New Orleans today to talk about climate change. That’s terrific news and good politics, but I’m hoping he will draw attention to the 200 or so enslaved women from France who helped turn the swampy bogs of the Crescent City into a habitable living space during the first half of the 18th century.
